Skellefteå cultural center. skellefteå. sweden. 2016.

The northern Swedish city of Skellefteå is characterized by arctic climate, its proximity to the sea, its mining industry, and its focus on cultural development.

With 25 000 m² and unique dimensions – 70 m high and a footprint of 160 m x 60 m - the Cultural Center will become the new landmark of the city. The various modules of the building present specific requirements, such as long spans, high bearing capacity, and high shearing capacity.

The hybrid structure designed to meet those challenges is a subtle association of timber elements together with concrete and steel components. Structural, architectural, and environmental concerns are the main points that lead this sophisticated combination.
