Holmenkollen Ski jumping. Oslo. Norway. 2010

DIFK was honoured to win the open international architectural competition for the rebuild of the New Holmenkollbakken together with JDS Architects. Holmenkollen ski jump is one of the capital’s, and indeed the country’s, greatest symbols. The top of the inrun structure offers a spectacular view over Oslo and the landscape, and is one of city’s main tourist destinations.

The trusses have a clear division between tension and compression, specifically developed for each load situation, and in this way visualize how the forces are handled throughout the construction. The main steel construction with elements in reasonable sizes, eased the fabrication and mounting in the height.

The engineering contract was won together with Norconsult. Dipl. Ing. Florian Kosche was the lead design engineer for the steel structures of the inrun and responsible for geometry, design, structural analysis and technical site supervision during the erection works.

To design and develop the most central feature in this project was a unique challenge. We are most thankful for the opportunity to design this unique engineering structure, and hope it will serve the people of Oslo for many years to come.
