Gaularfjellet Viewpoint. Gaularfjellet. Norway. 2016.

The project is part of Statens Vegvesen (Road and Traffic Authorities) effort to strengthen the fjord lands of the west coast as a tourist destination. Code Architecture won the competition for this project.

Gaularfjellet is crossed by Riksvei 13 which was opened for traffic in 1938. The highest point is 748 m.a.s.l., in proximity of the Jostedalsbreen glacier.

The look-out platform features three cantilevering triangular shaped plates, cantilevering up to 18 m. The solution became a rather simple approach with no post tensioning, which emphasizes the architectural intention.

DIFK has been involved in the project since preingineering phase with responsibility for structural concept and analysis.
