Holmenkollen Ski jumping. Oslo. Norway. 2010

DIFK, in collaboration with JDS Architects, won the open, international architectural competition for the new Holmenkollbakken ski jump. Holmenkollen is not only one of Oslo’s most iconic landmarks, but also a national symbol and one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions. From the tower, one has a spectacular view of the capital and the surrounding landscape.

The main structure is built in steel, with prefabricated elements in manageable sizes, which simplified both production and assembly at height. The load-bearing structure is designed with a clear division between tension and compression zones, optimized to handle different load situations. This solution makes visible how the forces are distributed throughout the entire structure, while ensuring maximum structural efficiency.

The engineering contract was awarded in collaboration with Norconsult, with DIFK as the lead engineer for steel structures. DIFK was responsible for geometry, design, structural analysis and technical follow-up on the construction site throughout the entire construction phase.
