This design is the result of a close and inspirational design process with Ghilardi + Hellsten Arkitekter. Our focus was to understand the new bridge's relationship with the old dominating steel bridge next to it.
The horizontal movement of the bridge reassembles the reflection of the old bridge in the water. The two bridge decks allow a separation between pedestrians and cyclists. At mid span the horizontal truss work creates a connection between the two decks. All slopes are adjusted to people with special needs.
The load bearing system is unusual, but proved to be very efficient due to the considerable static height over the supports. The truss twists about the bridges axis and is stabilized by the in-plane stiffness in the upper and lower decks. The main load is transferred by cantilever action to the bridge supports in the river.
